USA Visa Lottery Program

Basic guidelines to the USA Visa Lottery Program

Immigration to the United States of America can be a dream that many want, but few achieve. However, each year the United States provides immigrant visas (green cards) to up to 50,000 people who participate in a USA visa lottery program, called the Diversity Visa Program. There is no cost to apply, and all filings must be done on-line at www.dvlottery.state.gov.

To be eligible for the USA visa lottery program, an applicant must either be a high school graduate or have two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform. Only one application per person is permitted. Submission of more than one application will disqualify the applicant. Both spouses can submit an individual application for married couples, and if one of them wins a visa, then the other plus any minor children will also be granted a visa.

The visa application requires submitting personal information, including name, birth date, gender, city, country of birth, marital status, etc., plus the submission of a digital photograph meeting certain specifications.

Notification of the USA lottery program winners will be available on the diversity visa website. Winners will then be directed to another website for further instructions, including filling out immigration forms and paying necessary immigration fees. Winners of the lottery are not guaranteed immigration to the United States. They must also meet regular immigration eligibility requirements, including assurances that the applicant will not become a public charge to the United States. If this is the case, the applicant may be required to find a financial sponsor in the US.

We at Cohen Brosh Law Office would be happy to assist you if you receive a notice that you have won in the USA Visa Lottery Program.
